Trimming olive trees

A 2nd day with over 2000 new infections. It's gone beyond scary. It's the twilight zone. Politicians continue to bicker and flip flop ... for example, gyms were closed but this morning the Coronal Commission reopened them; while the PM and ministers vow to close them again as soon as they can. The President lambasted the govt saying the State is not their rag doll to drag around. And Palestine is not faring any better. Though much lesser in numbers of new infections, only 151 cases a day ... still its health system cannot bear the load. Bad news all around.

Meantime tensions in the northern border has risen. Israel has deployed the army near Lebanon, fearing an attack. That's not very comforting for locals who are already stressed with the pandemic and economic crisis. Let's hope for the best that nothing happens.  

Protests around the country are still continuing and especially in front of the PM's house. There's no letting up here. I just hope it won't get violent again. There's no need to add to the misery. The whole City both east and west seem very subdued.

Few people at  Damascus Gate

I noticed the Municipality started trimming trees around the city parks and roads. It's unusual because we're in the middle of summer and the heat will kill the pruned trees. I guess the trees had not been attended to for the past 4 months during the lockdown so they have become straggly so now they've started the pruning. The olives trees are already fruiting. What a pity. Poor people usually harvest these public olives for their food during autumn.  

Well the weekend begins tonight. Here the weekend is Friday and Saturday. I hope to have a little more free time and catch up with my reading.
