Last night began the mourning ritual as Tisha B'Av began at sundown. This 9th Day of Av saw the destruction of the temples on the same day 500 years apart - the first by the Babylonians in 587 BC and the second by the Romans in 70 AD. Observant Jews fast, don't wash for one day, sit on the floor and study the Book of Lamentations. Even the protest movement respected the solemn nature of the day. No music, dance or joyous expressions. http://www.jpost.com/NationalNews/Article.aspx?id=232970
As the ancient rabbis taught - both temples were destroyed because of the Israelite's idolatry and "baseless hatred" for one another: there was no love for each other, just selfishness. And this brings a poignant lesson to the protesters throughout the country - they are calling for a more caring and loving society.
I might go to the hospital today or tomorrow as my situation isn't getting any better. Less pain today but extremely bloated.
