Lawlessness abound

The dreadful desert storm is letting up a little. The yellow-brown sky is turning blue again, but the heat is still hanging relentless over us.

A dreadful tragedy yesterday when 6 members of a family were stabbed and burned during the birthday party of one of the grandchildren. "The country is lawless" says a neighbour. That's exactly how everyone is feeling right now. It's not just a matter of Jew against muslim, arab against israeli, but as we've seen the last few months it's within israeli society itself - jew against jew, arab against arab. Meanwhile the tourists are back with a vengeance; literally thousands have crowded into the Old City yesterday. There was hardly any space to walk in the streets, let alone the churches.
