At the pastry shop

Yesterday was a very rushed day ... meetings, payment of stipends, sending scanned books to various requests and trying to buy biscuits to stock up for the possible national lockdown. The weather is still very hot and I managed to come home from all that work at 2pm. Splitting headache. On the way home I did stop by a pastry shop run by a friend. I always try to encourage him and help out by buying some goodies. I thought of 2 students who always had tea at 3pm ... on the terrace in this awful heat. So I bought some Oreo cookie cheesecake to share. It was a nice treat ... cool in the afternoon heat.

The govt met to vote on the lockdown this morning but nothing came of it. Half the parliament is against it for various reasons ... from religion to politics. There's also a lot of threats flying back and forth ... from social disobedience to pullout from the coalition govt. As far as I can see, the lockdown will never take place. It's the jewish high holidays ... the rabbis would not allow a 2 week lockdown to disrupt their holy days of prayer. Watch this space .... see if I'm right.  

Custos presides Mass

Today is Sept. 13th and the worldwide Good Friday Collection take place. It's been postponed to today because of the pandemic. All collections come to the Holy Land to support the work of preserving the holy places, and help the local christians. The situation is terrible this year as we depend on pilgrims to survive. We hope everyone will be generous despite their own personal difficulties. And we pray for all our benefactors. In fact the Custos of the Holy Land presided at high Mass at the Empty Tomb this morning for this purpose. It was broadcast worldwide. He made an appeal for a generous collection. We're in dire need in preserving the Holy Places and local christians.
