It rained heavily early this morning at 3am. We all knew because the electricity in our area was cut and the alarm sounded. It was cut 4 times after the electric lines were re-opened. And Internet connection and phone lines were all cut for almost 5 hours. There was thunder and lightening in a distance. And it was cold. Feels like winter for real. Now school opposite us has started and the kids are enjoying the wet ground and cold wind and drizzle. Their teachers are herding them into the classrooms.
I've been noticing how locals eat - very little. Families who sit under an olive tree in the park eating lunch, or road workers taking their lunch break or shopkeepers or office workers or even families at home etc... They eat very little. One or two pieces of pita bread with hummus (chickpea paste) or eggplant salsa, a cucumber and that's it. In the family they might have rice on weekends and meat (chicken mainly). Yet they get enough of energy to work (a relative term here). And they're all very lean and fit. I remember the doc saying it's enough to eat 70% and not to a full stomach. Guess there's some truth in that because compared to our eating habits, they actually eat very little yet they are very healthy. And there's very little waste of food. Good habit to pick up.
