It rained the whole day and night - not heavy but a constant light shower. Cold .... felt like 0 degrees last night. But no snow so far. The local news reported that 20 snow ploughs are being prepared to clear roads in Jerusalem, and salt-sowing machines as well. Looks like they'll have to be recalled. The rains stopped at about 7am and the sun is up and shining again .... but who knows? In an hour things might change to the other extreme. This is after all the Holyland. Anything and everything can happen.
Today we celebrate the feast of St. Veronica ... the lady who wiped the face of Jesus on the way to Calvary. She's the patron of our sister superior - Sr. Veronica - who helps in the sacristy and kitchen. Lesson to learn - do we see the face of Christ even in a piece of rag? Jesus leaves his imprint in the simplest, daily events of our lives. But it requires our spiritual sensitivity to discern his quiet presence in things so mundane we don't even think twice about it.
