Safe and sound

I'm glad I wasn't in the Old City today. From what I hear from students who managed to get out, there was rioting at the 5th Station and the soldiers charged and sent the rioting crowds into our monastery frontdoor. Stun guns were fired and teargas was also fired. And apparently the arabs had some weapons to shoot back too.

A bedouin friend from the north called to ask if I was alright and was relieved that I was 2 km away from the Old City. Well I stayed away till 7pm when I walked back to see the remains of the rioting.

The situation will slowly die down in the next few days. The military presence was very much reduced in the muslim quarter.
