Post-Nakba Day

2 fires in Suleiman Street
Yesterday was the most peaceful Nakba Day in more than a decade. There were only a few scuffles and demonstrations in the streets and the military presence was remarkably minimal. Last night there were 2 trash fires on Suleiman Street meant to block the traffic. This is just outside Damascus Gate ... but despite the huge fires, traffic continued to brave through it. Police and soldiers stood off in a distance unfazed and didn't intervene.

50 metres away the night market continued as usual, no one was bothered by the fire. And during the day, the weekend market at Musrara was business as usual. Nobody wants a riot. Everyone just wants a normal life.

Bustling Market Day as usual today
But tomorrow we're really expecting violent riots and attacks from extremist jews celebrating the conquest of East Jerusalem. Arabs have been warned to stay indoors and secure their shops in case of vandalism and even fires.
