History: The parents of Fadi and Maivel were originally from al-Birba (Minya, Upper Egypt). 6 years ago they moved to Cairo. Mr Milad holds a diploma in agriculture but cannot find work both in his hometown and in Cairo. He now works as a porter for a woodwork shop. Physically he is not capable of this work as he suffers from a hernia that has not healed after 2 operations. Left with no other choice, he has to continue this heavy work as he has no other means to sustain his family. The St Vincent de Paul Society of the Holy Family Parish gives him 30 Egyptian Pounds (5 US$) every month as aid. The mother Elena suffers from backpain after her second childbirth. The couple has two sons: Fadi who is 5 yrs old and Maivel who is 1 yr and 3 months. Mrs Milad needs to see the doctor for her back problem as well as tonsillitis. But she cannot do so because they have no financial means. They live in an apartment of 3 rooms that belongs to the boss Mr Milad works for. Despite being a miserable place, it is still a luxury that many can never have.
