The ancient hill south of the present Old City is archaeologically known to be the site of Jerusalem in the time of King David and includes many new discoveries including the Siloam Pool where the blind man was cured. However the Israeli authority's move to demolish many arab homes in order to build an archaeological park there has drawn protests from the arab inhabitants. There was a strike several weeks back as part of the protest. Tensions in the Old City no doubt is embroiled in this as well.
I'm sure excavations there will bring to light many many interesting discoveries; but we must never forget that there are arab families living on top of it. Where will they go when they are evicted? If their houses were illegally built, then at least the municipality should consider giving them alternative housing. Human lives cost more than stones. I'm just wondering aloud if the Jerusalem municipality would do the same in West Jerusalem? http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1239710752849&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull
