History: The father of Abdel Masih was originally from Der Abu Hinnis, in Upper Egypt. The family moved to Cairo in the hope of finding a better economic situation. It was a delusion. Rumani, the father married young, and makes a living as a street vendor. He does not have a proper house. Like many others, he comes to the Franciscans for some help, since their own churches offer little. One must understand the great number of poor people living in Cairo. Mary, the mother of Abdel Masih, is a pleasant girl. She was no more than 20 yrs old when she was pregnant. She is still breastfeeding the baby, but she produces little milk hence baby Abdel Masih suffers from intestinal problems. The baby now needs special powdered milk that his parents cannot afford.
