Sick

An exhausting day. Had to go to Nazareth for my checkup and Fr. Arlon drove me there - well up to Givat Shaul (boundary of Jerusalem) at least because the car's fan belt gave out and the engine was over heating. had to drive back to our center to change cars. By the time we got to Nazareth it was well past 3 hours of driving in over 32 degree heat. It was exhausting and it made me quite sick - I was fasting for the past 12 hours and was quite faint by then. Worse thing was we didn't bring water with us, and we couldn't buy water on the highway.

Anyway the hospital was very kind and when they saw me quite out of action, they quickly got me to the emergency room to cool me down (too hot and dehydrated) and then started all the tests. They were pretty quick and efficient. That's why I like this hospital - they don't lose my blood samples like the Jerusalem hospital. While waiting for my results, Arlon and I went downtown to have some lunch. A normal 3 minute ride became a 30 minute stuck in the traffic ... and the heat. Utterly unbelievable. But anyway it paid off as my friend Alaa arranged a lovely lunch of local food - arab salads and kebabs. I was so hungry and ate everything. And drank 2 cokes and 1 glass of water - my suger level is within normal range so I can and will drink coke!!!! But I guess coke is pretty corrosive because our archaeologists use coke to dissolve patina and clean ancient coins.

Anyway drove back to the hospital for my results; then started our long ride back to Jerusalem in the aweful heat. Took us almost another 3 hours to get back despite using Highway 6. Aweful traffic in certain areas .... probably because the Maccabiah Games were starting within the vicinity of Tel Aviv so causing traffic jams around that area. Arlon dropped me off at New Gate so I walked the rest of the way home - just less than 1km - but it was so hot and I was again so dehydrated and quickly stopped at our nearby christian grocery to buy water. Anyway got home feeling pretty sick - probably because of the heat. Feel like vomiting. Will skip dinner and sleep instead.
