Heavy police presence at Damascus Gate |
Another vicious gang fight - this time down our street at the 3rd Station. Just like the last time, youths were involved; and from what I hear, it involved again rival shops. Soldiers and police poured into the streets, tear gas was fired and there was general chaos for 20 minutes before relative calm was restored. But soldiers and police continued to linger in the area as well as Damascus Gate for much longer, just in case the trouble-makers returned. It's that stretch of road that jews were using to go to the Wailing Wall - being the onset of the Sabbath - so the soldiers had to secure the road. Don't know if anyone was arrested.

| Edible kernels (L) and shells (R) |

Nadia spent 2 mornings just cracking the shells of almonds with a mallet to get to the kernel which is the edible part. Hard work. But the result is tasty almonds delightfully toasted.
